Stephen is a Cotswolds artist, with strong connections to the West Country.
As a young man, Stephen was first inspired to take his painting seriously while travelling around Australia. In Melbourne, he was influenced by meeting Alvaro Castagnet, a world-renowned watercolourist whose work features unorthodox bold, bright and passionate use of watercolour. Stephen continued to develop his own technique and sold his work through galleries in Australia, to much acclaim, before returning to the UK in 2000.
Stephen initially pursued his artistic practice alongside his business career, before following his heart as a professional artist several years ago.
Stephen’s watercolour landscapes quickly gained a reputation for outstanding handling of light and contrast. Stephen is also accomplished as a painter in oils, and he continues to bring his eye for light and colour to work in this medium.
