Creativity has always been a driving force for Andrew. As a child, making models, drawing, painting and using eye and hand to create something was a thrill. These early years bore evidence that a formal art training was almost always going to be a certainty. A career as an artist and designer was to follow.

His experience as a professional artist is wide ranging and includes working in 3 dimensions and employing many different mediums and disciplines. But painting in particular, is something that he finds both challenging and rewarding. Andrew regards himself as a representational painter, using a variety of paint handling techniques, with brush or knife, painting anything from flowers to architecture, and landscapes often being his preferred subject.

He enjoys the immediacy of working ‘en plein air’ when possible and works both in Oils, Acrylic or Mixed Media, depending on his feeling for the subject. Light, colour, structure, and composition, all feature strongly in his work to reveal the special character and atmosphere of a scene.

This filtering of visual information through human perception, is key to capturing something that lifts the work above a mere photographic recording. As Andrew describes “For me, that personal vision and its interpretation are the things that make the art of painting remain as valid as ever, particularly in this modern age.”
