The view of Widdicombe Ley took Cath by surprise. She crested a hill expecting to see the sea, but instead found reedbeds, shifting grasses and a quiet freshwater lake behind the beach at Beesands. There was something unassuming about the scene and that made it even more claming, The painting reflects that soft complexity, with oil on paper capturing delicate textures.
